Can you just run a wire from the positive side of a 24 volt battery to the distributor to see if it will start ?

Yes you can.
If this is a new to you Mighty Mite you will want to read this info from Rob Walsh: http://m422a1.com/pdf%20docs/Mighty_Mit ... %20RFW.pdf
To quote Rob "DO NOT CRANK a MM Engine that has been sitting/stored for a long time unless you inspect the cylinder bores!"
Good luck,

The engine has been rebuilt and its sitting in the frame. I just wanted to start it before I put the body on.
I was just wanted to know if I put a straight 24 volt to the dist. will it be alright or will I cook the coil and condenser .

yes you can get the 24 volts at the starter.
What I'm wanted to find out can I use 24volts straight to the dist. with out going throught the switch ,voltage regulator, and everything in between.

Yes a "jumper" straight to the distributor is okay.

Re: hot wiring a mite
I would caution not to leave the 24v on the distributor with the engine not running - could fry the points if they happen to be closed.
