oil leak
hey,... got a pretty good oil leak while running around at KCR. looks like the seal on the crank is bad. is it possible to remove the pulley and replace that seal or do i have to dis-assemble half the thing to do it......???

Re: oil leak
Check that the Vent valves were not closed. Remove the drain plug at the bell housing area to check for engine or trans lube. This would be rear engine seal if engine oil is present this requires removing the engine and bell housing to replace.
If gear lube is present then it could be 5 things.
1-LR axle seal at DG Housing seldom if 205 bearing is good
2-LR axle seal at trans most common
3-Input Shaft seals unlikely if 205 bearing is good
4-Input Shaft bearing retainer and cover gaskets almost never
5-Countercluster shaft almost never
Check that the oil level is not over full could be a bad fuel pump diaphragm. After verifying proper oil level with engine running check your vent valve at the carb is it spitting out oil if so review my post.

The seal could have split or gone bad but that is unusual. Remove the pulley then the seal. I use a drill and 1/8 bit then a slid hammer with a screw. The key may come with the pulley if not remove it. Clean the shaft in the area of the seal to remove any burrs or paint then grease the shaft / seal and install.
