Magneto Wiring Question
I picked up a Mule and I'm trying to get it running but I think the problem is in the magneto wiring but I have no idea how this thing works. I have a wire running from the magneto to the front and it has a clip on it that is marked "GRD", it's the only wire coming from it. Does this wire go to ground? I'm thinking not because it runs all the way to the front of the machine. How should this be wired to the ignition switch? Thanks!

Re: Magneto Wiring Question
Your wiring is correct.
The magneto is self contained and the wire is used to ground the points to prevent ignition. When the switch is in the OFF position the wire from the mag is grounded. In the ON position the circuit is open allowing the magneto to fire the spark plugs.
One wire on the ignition switch attaches to the frame as ground the other wire runs back to the magneto and attaches to the condenser.

Re: Magneto Wiring Question
That helps, thanks! What gauge wire should it be from the mag to the switch?

Re: Magneto Wiring Question
The Mil Spec wire is 14 gauge and either Prestolite or General Electric. Most A5s have General Electric.
I keep both in stock plus the Packard connectors.
Your ignition switch has 4 plug ports and 2 are blanked off with terminator [dummy] plugs
