Could this jeep have been there ?

Post by GI. » Mon Nov 06, 2017 12:45 pm

Looking at the pic,s of this jeep, their are at least five things that show's it would not have been there on "D day" 6 June 1944, can you pick them out ? not counting my crappy workmanship, four are very easy, "one" I don't think anyone will get, except maybe Mark, J.

It;s raining here in Georgia, I'm board and just getting my jeep ready for the Veteran's day parade Sat. and thought I would take some pic's and post them to see if the jeep police can find the five things I know of, "plus more if you can  ", but I know you won't find the one hard one.

I'LL BE BACK.

The two things between the wipers are a pack of lucky strikes and a paratrooper wrist compass.

Some say it started before the invasion of Sicily / Italy 9 July-17 Aug 1943 ? but in 1944 in England where thousand's of Military vehicles were being staged for the D day invasion of France the US Army was directed to paint the broken circle.
"to the best of my knowledge" if I'm wrong please correct me. Thanks

Yea....if you can find things wrong with it for that era that's great, I know it's a long way from being perfect, I just pointed out the five thing's that stand out to me for that part of history, if you can't find any thing out of place, no prob. I understand.

Luckies had transtioned to a white pack by 1944, yes ? The ammo can on the cradle appears to be a post war type. The tires have a distinctly non-ww2 tread (at least the spare). The "S" is missing from the registration number.

The VW in the back ground, no sticker on windshield to tell you to remove wading material once landed and no
equipment for the driver and passenger to survive ,like food blankets tent camo net and tooooo clean .

Cheers

OK, I'll play. Not a real .50 for starters. (no bolt) As mentioned above - not a WWII ammo can as well. Bottle opener
Pretty rare to see a combat jeep in theatre with the side view mirror on.
You have the 1944 invasion star on the hood, but not on the sides (but I have seen extant vehicles with two different types in photos) http://images.google.com/hosted/life/74 ... d6d22.html

The eye ring for the door way straps are vertical not horizontal like a GPW should have .

WOW!...You guy's really know your WW-2 jeep history, the one thing I thought no one would catch was the green pkg. of lucky strikes :o , I knew you would catch the flag right off, and the post war ant. and the post war ammo. can, and you caught me on the 1945 mussette bag, I thought for sure the bag would slip by , and Gary caught the VW, I knew some one would. .
Thank's everyone, now all I have to do is correct all of those write-up's you guy's found, and I should have a perfect "D day jeep".
Happy Veteran's day to all you Vet's,.... how about some pic's of your jeep's and other Military vech's in the parade's this Sat.

I totally disagree.
Well, I've seen hundreds of pics, and I'd say about 10-20% had the mirror and most of those were behind the lines or at least not on the combat line kind of jeeps.
