A LITTLE JEEP RELAXATION AND FUN

Post by Joe Gopan » Sun Oct 29, 2017 1:10 pm

Had some relaxing Jeep fun the past couple days. #1 Exhaust Valve was starting to burn, 3 Cylinders had 118# and #1 was 70#. I left well enough alone and just replaced the Guides, ground the seats, lapped and installed NOS RMC Int and Exhaust for just that one cyl. It was fun working on an engine that never had the head off as there are no stripped threads or the little things that are caused by inexperienced Jeep mechanics. Valves were set cold to 0.016", and head was retorqued to 70 Ft/Lb after a 20 minute warm up. The GPW engine is dated July 1945 and was a crated NOS Engine assy that I installed 18,000 miles ago in 1971. Has only had AMOCO Permalube #30 since new, will change to Rotella T 15-40 when my 50 year AMOCO supply runs out.
Soon as the heavy rains are over, my wife will give it a test drive, she is sure to be tickled pink.

My Jeep relaxation and fun was a bit less technical than yours as after another bit of off roading my brakes needed a bit of attention. They do tend to not work hardly at all when Wet
Anyway, now there dry I adjusted them all up along with the master cylinder rod and the peddle is now back to normal and it stops ok ish. Looking up the road to pre-empt your braking is part of the fun I guess!

Master Cylinder rod rarely if ever needs adjusting if body installation is intact. Installing non original draft pads can affect push rod adjustment.

Scheduled PM per the TM "keeps the doctor away". Chuck Yeager says "why wait for trouble". Did you know that Jeeps used Castor Oil ?

I decided to go to LUBRIPLATE SUPER HDS SAE #30 HD instead of the Rotella T 15-40 in my MB when the AMOCO is all gone.. It is factory formulated by LUBRIPLATE with zinc. The month of October is a good time to do the "oil can" points on my Jeeps, will use the Oil Can stored on the MB to do the oil can points. my way of playing Army Mechanic.
