WO-673023 KIT

Post by Joe Gopan » Sun Oct 15, 2017 11:55 pm

The most common Sealed Beam Headlamp Bulb used in the 40's 50's Civilian Motor Vehicles was the larger 7" Diameter PAR-46. WWII Jeeps used smaller diameter PAR 46 bulb. The 5" headlamp size on surplus MB/GPW Jeeps did not meet the MV Safety Inspection specifications of some states which made the MB/GPW headlamps illegal for highway use. Willys solution to the problem was the 673023 Kit which included a CJ Radiator Guard, with parking lights and necessary wiring.
Some of you may have encountered MB/GPW Jeeps having this conversion and considered it "mickey mouse". Many other surplus MV's such as Dodge WC and the 5 Ton 4X4 had the smaller Par 46 sealed beams, these also would have been illegal in the same states that applied to the MB/GPW. I do not gave any information on kits for the larger WWII trucks.
Am sure that the restriction on the PAR 46 Sealed Beam still exists but is long overlooked.

The WO-673023 information is noted in Bob Westerman's excellent "The Civilian Jeep Model CJ-3A" This book is "a must" if you are interested in 40's-50's Jeep history and will help you talk like a "pro" when captivating a Jeep audience.
