CIGARS
Did the Army issue Cigars to Jeep and other Combat Vehicle Drivers in WWII? A lot of restored Jeep owners can't be wrong.
Remember those huge 12" long novelty cigars of yesteryear? They could be a bit difficult to light up. I used to get stubborn ones started by removing the air cleaner from a Jeep and using the vacuum from the carburetor to help stoke stubborn stogies.

Re: CIGARS
All I ever got was Lucky Strikes.
Maybe that was because I was an APC driver instead of a jeep driver.
Never saw a General ride in an APC now that I think about it..
Build a fire on a carb. ??? What a novel idea Pre heat the engine !!!
Better than checking the fuel level in the gas tank with a lit match ! Pre heat the whole jeep !!!

Bill Clinton was a more recent expert @ handling cigars, but not the aftermath.

Re: CIGARS
I always consider a well used cigar as part and parcel of my WW2 soldier impression. I don't leave home without one.
Pro-tip: don't smoke the cigar while driving the jeep as the wind velocity will burn it down to a stub in no time at all. Save it for your arrival.

Re: CIGARS
Too right about burning down quick Rob, i sometimes have a cigarette whilst driving the jeep. It lasts about a minute, but a good way to cut down on smoking.

Re: CIGARS
Can't do that in Jersey as it is a violation: impeding the flow of traffic.

Re: CIGARS
On my 15 mile jeep drive I take the city streets and county back-roads and then finally 1/4 on Highway 101 to get to my exit. That 1/4 mile is white knuckle experience at 45MPH whereas the rest of the leisurely drive is usually at 25-35.
I know the speedometer goes up to "60" (well, mine goes to "63") but driving that fast is insane on the highways in traffic. I worry somewhat that my 70-year old jeep will break something but I worry 10x as much about some idiot rear ending me at 65-75MPH.
I just don't believe driving the jeep "as fast as it can go" is necessary, safe or what the whole point of taking it for a drive is. If you have overdrive, that's one thing as long as the brake will stop ya and the idiots can see you on the roadway...
I don't smoke...but if I did I would think 25-35 would keep the burn rate on that Cohiba down quite a bit compared to 55-60.

Re: CIGARS
An M-38A1 in top shape put right along at 55MPH and still be frisky enough to accelerate if need be. I have thousands of Intertstate miles , a lot of it on I-495 in Massachusetts. I always wanted to try the G. Washington Bridge.

Re: CIGARS
45 mph is the max I'll do so no interstate driving. It would be unsafe to do so. If I have to go by an interstate highway I will trailer it.
