Delco Remy part question

Post by Richard Farrant » Sat Sep 16, 2017 3:21 pm

Hi all,
I am trying to locate a Delco Remy component, it is a starter relay and am told the part # is 1116844. Not much else I can say, but if someone has old Delco parts catalogues and could identify what this item was commonly fitted on and if there is a company making pattern parts, if genuine Delco part is not available. This item would date back to late 1940's.

This picture shows the back of it with two mounting holes and 5 terminals. Any info on this would be much appreciated.

I have seen it in 1940-41 dated Chevrolet or GMC parts manuals with 6 Volt Negative Ground system. It may also be called a switch.
That's the best I can do.

Hi Ben,
Thanks for the lead, forgot to say that it is a 12 volt part.

I meant to say Positive ground and did a quick check on GM 1116844 in some WWII Ordnance parts manuals that list the wheeled vehicle Delco parts- nothing. I can go thru some tracked vehicle manuals later, can't promise you anything, tho. Also looked in WWII TM on DELCO for a pic-nothing.
Been thinning down my manuals .

I went through some old NAPA/Echlin parts books I have that list Delco Remy part numbers
No Joy on 1116844.
As close as I could come was 1116816. That turned out to be a 6 volt, positive ground voltage regulator used on industrial and farm equipment in the early 40s.
Went to A Delco sight.
It changed the 1116844 to the number 1116895. This is a relay. 12 volt.
The 895 number was also superseded by 1115841. this a 12 volt relay that could be used on 24 volt intermittently.
It also said both the replacement numbers were obsolete.
I here that a lot.
No pictures to go with the intel.
Guess we are still looking.

Might get a clue from an M-5 or M-24 Parts book.

Hi Mike and Ben,
Many thanks for your searching. I have now found quite a number of the superseded one with part # 1115841, seems these relays are used for horn, aircon, etc. This is for a starter and is 12 volt Neg earth, maybe they are not polarity sensitive as this never comes up in the description of the later ones. I have not got the wiring circuit with me here for the vehicle, but as there were 5 terminals on the original (which is missing), It might not be as straight forward as I hoped as this later on has only 3 terminals, will have to study the circuit.

While you guys are on a role, I have one other number to track down, it is an AC water temp gauge, part # 1511586, would you be so kind please?

best regards, Richard

Got my curiosity up as well.
What kind of vehicle are we dealing with ???
Might have better luck with vehicle year and type as well as part number.

Hi Mike,
Not sure whether it would help at all if I told you, but as you ask, it is a 1948 Oxford Carrier with a Cadillac 346 in it. :) There you are!

Thanks to those who have sent information including those who have sent PM's. Much appreciated, gives me avenues to search now.

best regards,
Richard

Not sure what that is. I might recognize it if I saw one. Maybe. In an old movie.
Don't have as much intel on gauges as I do charging system parts, but I will look.

Hi Mike,
Thank you, I am in no rush as still a lot to do. Any info you find will be of help. I am certain these gauges have to be compatible with the temp sender in the cylinder head, so that the correct reading is attained.

cheers Richard

I went back to the sight that crossed the switch number and entered 1511586 and it came back, no part found.
Tried entering the application. Nothing to lose. No joy there either.
We are still looking.
