MB's are clearly better chick-magnets than GPWs...
All my other cars are Fords, from 1926 through 1942, so I can get away with that.
Should I duck now?

Depends on where you stand...
It's nicer to sell a Ford, or Ford parts than to be the buyer!

Re: GPW OR MB, whats your preference.
I have a June 45 GPW, May 42 VEP GPW and a 43 MB. As I am in the middle of my MB restoration I am finding that I like the MB frames better.
My 45 GPW frame is a mess. The entire jeep in in great shape with very little visible "abuse" overall. But, the frame was cracked on both sides of the rear crossmember and the front frame horns were "turned in" a bit. I am betting the frame horns were turned in from the PO trying to copy the "Dukes of Hazard" style of jumps.
The bodies seem to be built to the same standard. I like the tool box lids better on the GPW.
Overall, I feel both are the same build quality and each has their strong points.
I do not have a personal preference. When I was initially looked into buying a G503, brand did not matter. As time went along, I wanted both.
If I was to keep only one, I would pick the one that has been restored closest to factory spec. As of now, I would keep my VEP GPW. It has the MB frame and GPW body and fortunately it is very close to factory spec.

Re: GPW OR MB, whats your preference.
This makes me laugh. My son has been around me way too long. He recently bought the Call of Duty WWII game. On this game there are several jeeps and one in the close up has a mirror on the passenger side. He exclaimed "Dad, those idiots programmed a mirror on both sides. That is so incorrect!" Got to love him.Mark Jesic wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2017 11:29 amWe are all fortunate to own a WW2 jeep guys, and dont they turn some heads from people of all ages. Looks like your Son is very educated, not many youngsters would have noticed that.

He is still well educated. For someone at that age to notice the mirror on the passenger side, knows his stuff.

Now it’s time to push the 24 year old to get a Jeep for himeself, especially if he knows a bit about them already! In my opinion that’s the best age to get the OD addiction (I know because that’s the age I was when I bought my GPW )

Re: GPW OR MB, whats your preference.
What does that make you now, 28 or 29? How awesome is that. I always wanted one and ended up building street rods until the day I ventured to the back of my favorite salvage yard. He kept all his 30s, 40s and early 50s cars back there. That is when I bumped into it. My 1945 GPW was sitting dangerously close to the shredder/ crusher. YUP you guessed it. He was getting ready to crush it. He had bought it along with a few other cars out of a barn at an estate sale. It was pretty rough but nothing I could not tackle. It was on with no looking back. O.D. is the only paint I have purchased since.

Re: GPW OR MB, whats your preference.
Yep, 29 now I was still living at home with my parents when I bought my GPW and there was an open garage bay at their house where I could store it. What helped me convince the old man to let me keep it there was the fact he's a big history buff. If he didn't know and/or care as much about the history aspect of these old vehicles, I have a feeling it would have been much harder to convince him to let me use the garage space. I had always been interested in them, too, and finally had a bit of savings after finishing college. Of course now I look back and say it was one of the better decisions I've made in my life, but the more I think of it I probably should have used the money I invested in the jeep to help pay off my student loans, or car, or other debts that I unfortunately still have But, you can't put a price on the satisfaction of restoring one of these old jeeps! And I would do it again in a heartbeat if I could!
