LITTLE G503 MAKE UP HERE AND THERE.
It took 25 years. I last painted my MB 25 years ago with late WWII 2430 OD by Gillespie, a pretty good paint back in those days, it sprayed on smooth as butter and has looked good all these years while taking forever to cure to a GI Issue OD patina. Paint masks was created locally at a sign shop for the 2" font for the U.S.A. registration. The registration was more or less the style used on factory new M-38/M-38A1 in flat white.
I bought a DeRuyter MB paint mask back in May of last year and decided to freshen up the MB finish a bit and put the DeRuyter 44 MB Paint Mask to good use. I have had a can of the first batch TM9 Blue Drab that has lasted me since 2007 (9 Years and it still sprays) and put it to use on the MB.
What a difference quality paint mask in authentic MB font and authentic TM9 Blue Drab makes is all I can say. It speaks for itself. Will post pic or two first chance I get.

Re: LITTLE G503 MAKE UP HERE AND THERE.
Looking forward to seeing the transformation!
I agree entirely. The time I took to recreate the same font as used on the Australian ARN (Army Registration Number) and get a colour which was as close to the remnants I could find (an off white), then hand paint it on using the stencil/mask Id made, it really made the difference.
Cheers,
Ian.

Re: LITTLE G503 MAKE UP HERE AND THERE.
I did a little touch up on the 25 year old 1991 Gillespie 2430 finish on my MB last week, Gillespie 2430 has held up well for all those years.. I plan to repaint it with TM9 Lusterless OD when I retire the MB.
Note the style star that DeRuyter includes with the MB Stencils. (I messed up and grabbed the wrong can of white primer and the white is a bit brighter than normally used.)
The TM9 Blue Drab does appear to adjust to different daylight just like the WWII issue Blue Drab. I tried to adjust the USA stencil position relative to the screw location of the grease gun bracket.
That Ordnance Flag? It came with some Jeep parts bought from DRMO Sale at Aberdeen PG decades ago.
The Licence Plate Topper is from the 1946 thru 1949 14th Fighter Group period at DOW FIELD. I grew up across the street and witnessed a lot of WWII aircraft and Post WWII Jet activity during that time. The 14th was full of famous WWII Aces and leaders, Lew Chick, Clure Smith, George Laven, William Samways, Arvid Olsen, Ray Littge, and Ray Wetmore, to name a few. The 14th FG Licence Plate Toppers came in different colors and were displayed on the licence plates of POV's. The Jet image represents the new P-84B Thunder Jet, the 14th was first AAF unit to be operational with the P-84B Thunderjet.
As you can see, the MB still looks OK after 45 years since complete rebuild with genuine NOS Jeep factory and WWII surplus parts (still has factory fresh feel) and has never let me down.
The Gate Guards at the ANG Base refer to my MB as my "Dooms Day Vehicle" They always look forward to seeing it.

Re: LITTLE G503 MAKE UP HERE AND THERE.
Think DeRuyter when doing your MB/GPW hood and markings. Am glad I did the hood in Willys Factory font, even tho the rest of the Jeep is marked as it would have been if it were overseas.
Note how the TM9 Blue Drab reacts to the light.
License Plate Topper is from late 1946 thru September 1949 Dow Field/Dow Air Force Base 14th Fighter Group, the first AF unit to be equipped with the new P-84/F-84. It was the B model and they crashed them all over Maine in the two years they were equipped with them. My NOS M-1 Bomb Lifts were from this unit.

Thanks, they were an effort to make General Yeager feel at home as guest of honor at the air show at Bangor ANG Base (Dow Field).

Would you post a close picture of the latch, so the newbies will see and learn the difference between a correct latch with the flat side, as opposed to the uncorrect all round post-war replacement latches?

Merle Olmstead WWII 357th Fighter Group P-51 Crewchief and Unit Historian for 357th Fighter Group Suggested the markings to use when the MB was used to escort General Yeager at a 1996 Airshow at Bangor ANG Base (former DOW FIELD 1941-1968).

Re: LITTLE G503 MAKE UP HERE AND THERE.
My 42 had the windshield hold down placed onto the fender when I got it. The previous owner had not changed anything since the government auction he purchased at. (supposedly) That would mean that some resourceful G.I. must have done that. Of course that meant I had to fix the indentation on the fender because the J hook was on the outside of the mounting bracket.

Think DeRuyter when you apply your MB/GPW U.S.A. Registration.
I am just an average guy, and this shows that one does not have to be an expert if given the proper material for the task. Think TM9 Blue Drab, I have used the same TM9 Blue Drab spray can to do my CCKW also.

Joel, your DD Form 2220 is long expired! I use to make guys scrape them off if they were expired and the vehicle owner didn’t stop by Pass & ID to renew them!
Nice looking MB, by the way. I have a set of Robert’s stencils for my Oct ‘44 MB and I’m ordering another set for my Mar ‘43 GPW which I’ll need very soon. His stencils are excellent!
