Re: MB425051 ***Updates***
Been playing with my sewing machine and whipped up a top.
My first attempt. I think it turned out okay.

Re: MB425051 ***Updates***
Thanks Ralph! It was fun buy stressful too! Next is seat cushions fashioned after the late war design. You can see a hint of a top cushion on the passenger seat. They will be foam filled since I don't have springs. Looking to make a bottom cushion that is foam filled but looks like an original. I enjoy working with canvas. It's a lot of fun. Already made a windshield cover. Should have a complete canvas set for it soon. All made by me!

Yeah that cushion top is just a rough draft. Wanted to see how it would turn out. I am lucky to have an original front seat top cover that has never been installed! Makes for a great template to build off of.Ralph wrote:Yes I saw it -looks like you have the back part in place.Looks fine. Our restorations have run pretty much side by side.Yours is one of the few longer than mine-(October 2008) I am doing cushions also-good thread you have.
Here are some close ups of it:
This has been a very LONG restoration job.... But I think I'm on the home stretch!
Took a look at your build thread Ralph, NICE! Great looking jeep you have there!

Re: MB425051 ***Updates***
I have been on the hunt for an original emergency brake cable. The reproduction black plastic looked like crap next to the original stuff. Found an NOS one still all packaged up!
The NOS is longer which made it easier to connect. The repro seemed a bit short to me and made a hard bend coming out of the firewall. Also the end near the top is different. The repro has a thin section which made it hard to clamp into the upper one. Where the NOS has a lot of meat there and clamped nicely.
The biggest difference is the cover or wrap. The metal wrapped looks so much better in the engine compartment!
It is currently installed and it works too!
On the NOS, the 'nut' is a part of the end where the yoke screws on. On the repo it had a nut that I had to remove to get the cable through the crossmember.

Re: MB425051 ***Updates***
Nick it is pretty neat to see an early seat cover like that...it is early,too-before they cut fabric from the corners? I think I have a set of springs from a rear seat if you could use them...let me know.
Isn't is nice how the nos stuff fits after the repro dance? I had to go repro for my (earlier) ebrake/cable,but that repro is pretty good-not perfect though...
finally updated my thread a little...keep sewing-

Actually this is late war, started I believe late 44. Went from the three tab to this wrap around (which was held over into the CJ series.Ralph wrote:Nick it is pretty neat to see an early seat cover like that...it is early,too-before they cut fabric from the corners? I am on the hunt for springs! I have none for my jeep. Send me a message and let me know what you want for them.

Re: MB425051 ***Updates***
After a bit of a hiatus from the jeep. Spent this last weekend doing some work on it. Still doing with some issues at idle but running okay at the moment. Got the jeep out of the garage and cleaned up a bit. Took advantage of the decent weather and painted some parts and touched up the jeep.
Started adding some parts and pieces too.
Picked up some Omix 6V headlamps and was surprised to found out they weren't motorcycle marked. They looked great!

It was that way when I got it so I left it. Makes it easy to open up without a wrench...... No problem. No rush on my end. I appreciate it.Ralph wrote:Nick, cool pics..like the spinner on your oil filter bolt.Have not forgot about the springs...they are buried pretty deep...

Re: MB425051 ***Updates***
Wow! It has been over a year since I posted any updates. Since our move in October 2016, absolutely nothing has happen to my little MB. It has been tucked away in the shop waiting for my to pay some attention to it. This last year has been spent working on the acreage. May of 2017 was spent clear cutting the property and spent the rest of the time building it up. Horse stalls, hay barns, riding arenas and fencing has been taking up almost all my time this year. With the weather changing and projects slowing down, time to get cracking on the jeep again. But, its not all alone in the shop, when my Grandfather passed away, my dad got the 1943 GPW back. Since he doesn't have room for it in Nevada, guess who gets to be the caretaker of it?? ME!!! So the two have been keeping each other company. It is an older restoration (over 20 years ago) and needs some work as it has sat for the last 5 years.
Can't wait to start wrenching on these two.
