Sinkov,

I have no idea on the history of that item.

Anyway here are a few more.

Dug these out of my storage today, these are on my favorite's list. Not sure what the square Air force one is for, but as soon as I can locate a period frame it is going in it, really is a beauty.

The one with countries listed it appears that bottom is for New Zealand with the Z reversed but what is NEI? I like the morse code letter V, that was clever

John,
Those last three are added to my favorites so far too!! Super nice collection!! Most of the banners for stateside don't compare to the graphics used on yours.

Steve Webb asks
what is NEI?
Steve I think it stand for "North East Indies", good pick up on the reversed "Z", never noticed that before.

Steve G, They have been a real interest for me to collect, have a couple of other items which I will post photos of when I get time.

A couple more have appeared, The 1st Cav one simply has a different background colour to the one above, the single Navy Item came my way via AZ Jeff. Lastly a pocket size 1st Cav Calendar, it is leather & appears to be hand painted.

Awesome collection John. I see these on occasion, even here in AZ, but rarely with a unit reference. Here is my U.S. Navy example to which the vet had covered with some nice insignia...

Image

* Australian Army cap badge
* Royal Australian Air Force cap badge
* Netherlands Indies shoulder strap badge
* New Zealand cap badge
* Netherlands collar/cap badge -- K.G. LUKE (Melbourne) manufactured
* USMC EM cap badge
* USN "ruptured duck" discharge patch

Image

* VFW ribbon bar
* Unofficial USN Seabees cap/collar badge (screwback) -- K.G. LUKE (Melbourne) manufactured
* USMC Chief Marine Gunner collar badge (pin back) -- K.G. LUKE (Melbourne) manufactured

Thankfully the photos of the pennant that appeared in the e-Bay auction of this piece a few years ago were poor and didn't say much about the insignia :D . The Australian-made Sea Bees badge is particularly scarce.

Jeff,

Thanks for your comments, Your pennant appears to be a variation I don't have but who knows how many different ones were made. The badges are a very nice addition & I only have one which is on the 1st page with a bunch of insignia.
Keep looking out for these for me, makes your shopping easier if you know I don't have it.

I think NEI stands for Netherlands East Indies.
You will recall that Indonesia used to be a Dutch colony and that it was a combined US, Aus, NEI fleet which confronted the Japanese in early 1942 in the battles for the NEI

John, Very nice collection. I have a few you don't have including one with my grandfathers unit on it. The square one you have might be a table piece. I have one that is rectangular and appears to be a table center piece. I will post pics when I get home, in December. :shock:

He fell into my hands today and the search for information about this subject led me to this topic.
