Air Force mutts

Post by moose53 » Tue Sep 19, 2006 11:20 am

anyone have info on marking our jeeps in the air force? I know when the army went camo the air force didn't, when I was there in the 80's everything was CARC green... I don't remember how unit markings were applied though. I hoping someone here has a publication or recalls how to do it.

thanks,
Jim

somewhere on this forum there's a pic of some sp's at Clark in the PI with a blue M151. do a seach using "Clark" or 'Clark Air Base' or sumpin like dat. supposedly in the early 80s - blue like the flightline vehicles used to be, with yellow lettering --- absolutely hideous. the post was sometime last year. Good luck - and have a paperbag handy.

ralph,
if yr replying to me, den no - that's not the USAF jeep i was talking about. There was a thread sometime either earlier this year or late last --- a pic with an SP ( he was wearing the beret, so it must've been late70s on - he also had BDUs but with some other pattern - and USAF stripes in blue, and not subdued)

There's a blue which alot of USAF flightline vehicles, and USAF official vehicles were painted, especially up to the early 90s - whether a sedan or a maintenance van, or a truck. The US lettering and registration numbers were in yellow ----- that's how the jeep was painted.

I remember we were trying to figure out where that was - thinking it had to be either Panama or the PI. I'd never seen a blue jeep like that down here, nor seen BDUs like dat - but someone said for sure it was at Clark (PI)

Anyway - the blue USAF color scheme just didn't look good on that puppy, at all.

Yup - that's the color scheme.... but somehow that jeep (m38?) don't look so bad? The green M151 looks waay mo'betta - but the blue one looks... ok.

Thanks pic, Baios.

If the blue on the M38 is really as dark as it looks on my screen (I know they all vary) it answers a question I always had about the blue M38 I drove in the Navy, it was not one passed on from the Air Force as it was a few shades lighter.
