Is there a difference between A1 and A2 steering gear?

Yes, the A1 is a one piece unit with the column and box altogether and the A2 has the box mounted separate with a rag joint connecting the column to the box.

Thanks, I kind of figured that but wanted to confirm. I found a good deal on ebay for a nos unit but it's for the A2 and my Mutt is an A1

Remember the box is only part of the A2 package,
You still need a steering column and an A2 steering wheel plus the rag joint.
See what these will cost first before you do it.

Good luck

Thanks but I wasn't suggesting I'm going to try and use it. Just have to keep looking for the correct one or rebuild mine.
