Hi, as I tear down my m151 motor and transmission, I'm looking to replace seals, gaskets, ect... I like to support my local Auto store, is there a civilian version I can reference when trying to order parts? I'm assuming a cj5 or a Willies... It's a1964.
Thanks, Steve

There is not much on a 151 that cross's over to civilian parts. Luckily at this point in time most of the stuff is still available from surplus dealers. If you go to the g838.org site there is a cross reference section in the wiki.

It takes a lot of work, time, patients, frustration and $'s to find what will cross and not cross. When you do make a spreadsheet to record your findings.

Re: M151 civilian equivalent for parts
1st point I'd make is it's a FORD engine, and Willys and CJ are Willys/AMC/then Chrysler products, so asking your parts guy to look them up will be rather difficult.
You may find a Ford Industrial Engine that crosses into civilian World, but I know of ZERO civilian automotive components used in the Ford military L-141 engine'd MUTT contract (which became AMC then AM General contracts)
Exceptions:
Belts (make sure to match lengths)
Thermostats
Oil Filters (PH-8, a mainstay of Ford engines)
Possibly AMC Gremlin or Javalin fuel/vacuum pump (and gasket)
Some u-joints (I recall maybe a '64 Ford Fairlane for center drive shaft joints ((Maybe...))
Carb to manifold gasket
Possibly a Carb fuel accelerator diaphragm off a 2 barrel Autolite carb
Your best vendor I can recommend for M151 parts will be TNJ Murray in Delaware (Ron does not carry M151 parts)
Buying off e-bay you will more than likely get off shore parts with zero reliability, at least TNJ will carry the correct part, and have some dealership ethics.
Good luck with the local parts counter, let us know how it works out.

Great, thanks for the info... I just restored a 1968 mustang, I was amazed that the oil filter was the same for the mutt! Haha, if only everything was so easy...
Thanks again
