In-Tank Fuel Filter

Post by Chuckm » Thu May 18, 2017 6:39 pm

Before I go and splurge for a new one, does anyone have an idea to clean the large in-tank fuel filter on a M151A1? After getting the pump up and running with out the filter, I was punping clean gas into a container. I then installed to filter and ran some fuel through it and had the gas come out with a LOT of rust/dirt/crap ! This was the only thing that I changed so the filter seems to be clogged/plugged with dirt/rust etc from sitting around for 10 years.

I can get a pull for $30 or a NOS for $50 on epay but wondered if anyone had ever tried to clean one of these??

Thanks,

Chuck, I have taken a gallon plastic ice cream bucket, filled it with diesel fuel and let it soak about 30 minutes. Then gently swish it around and see how dark you can make the diesel. When you think it looks pretty clean, do a final rinse in gasoline or repeat the diesel treatment until clear. It won't take to much. I use diesel first as it is less volatile. Kevin.
