did all 151 jeeps use the same
type brake fluid? Is there a way to determine what your jeep my have. A friend of mine has a 1968 151a1 and is not sure what to use. His brake fluid level is a little low and he dos not know what to use
not knowing what the previous owner used.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Fred

Re: brake fluid question
Get a cup of water, A cup you will not be using to drink from again. Get a little of the fluid that is in the master cylinder and drop it in the cup. If it immediately turns white and mixes with the water it is DOT-3, it it just floats on top it is DOT-5.
The military only used DOT-5 silicone fluid but after it came into private hands it could have been changed over or worse, the fluids could have been mixed and they are not compatible.

Re: brake fluid question
A very appropriate time to flush the complete hydraulic system [not by pumping the pedal method] replacing all old with new fluid, would be my suggestion. http://jeepdraw.com/images/HOW%20to%20B ... LEEDER.pdf
