Is it my imagination or are those logs just laying on top of the ground? Maybe a good way to cross swampy ground with this "log railway"?

Best to trust the poles than attempt to cross the trench without them.

I remember my friends and heroes such as Lonnie and Joe quite often. Lonnie was on my Highway Survey Crew and always had something nice to say about all the men activated with his unit, they are mostly gone now and were a who's who in the local community they lived in. Lonnie used to remind me that drivers in his unit who wore eyeglasses were assigned as "assistant drivers".
