M416 casting with lunette and leg fits the m100 holes, just doesn't match the angle of the channels. I've heard they fit and heard they don't. Figured I'd try it myself. Put a small bottle jack between the channels and separated them a little. Works for me.

It's been a while since I have updated my build progress. Gotta get a better system of resizing my pics with the loss of photobucket.

Got the blank boss with ordnance bomb GPW engine running. But lots of cracks in the casting. Water mixed in the crank case, crack in the water jacket around #4 cylinder valve guides. So contacted my buddy Ray (70th Division) and we made a deal on a GPW block (GPW-61825). It has a rebuild tag with a '44 date on it.

Doing a Navy jeep and figured I'd put some PT artwork on it. And getting cylinders bored...

This is more or less where it is now. Am working on patching some holes on the rear crossmember and replacing the rear bumperettes with the correct ones. No engine yet, but wrapping up the machine work and getting ready for reassembly.

Nice looking GPW and very nice seeing one done in the paint scheme you chose!

My ‘43 GPW #104111 was a former Navy jeep and was marked in the same fashion....yellow numbers over OD at one point prior to the entire vehicle being repainted grey. It’s Navy registration number is USN 88667.

Too many jeeps…and a Dodge.

Thanks for the kind words! Glad to hear of another confirmed paint scheme like this. I based it on the pics of the Navy OD jeep with yellow markings towing the glider. Saw it in Google images when I searched it. In that one you can see the Army markings blotted out and the yellow reapplied. Really nice original color pic. Also just figured that's what a jeep in the Pacific would look like, even though Ron 4 was the training squadron in Melville. My salute to all the PT men that all probably were part of Ron 4 at some time.

You can kinda see what I was dealing with on this cross member. Someone had cut out two holes in line with the frame rails probably to mount some hitch or something. Then it was covered with a thin piece of steel to hide the holes.

Looking really good Rob, looking at earlier photos, you have performed a miracle, what is the status on the engine ?

Thanks Mark, the engine is ready to be picked up at the machine shop and everything for the rebuild is ready for reassembly. Just trying to coordinate a time to start working on it. Fresh ground crank wrapped up on stand by. Box of new .060 pistons and rings. Getting excited. The fellow rebuilding it has done quite a few and all of them are still turning good, in some cases for 20 years now. He's letting me be real hands on. Love this stuff!

Nice job on your jeep and good luck with the engine rebuild! You're a few steps ahead of me with the engine, but I've got mine disassembled and will be (hopefully) dropping it off at a machine shop in the coming months. It'll be my first time rebuilding one, but the old guy (grandfather) I've got helping has done many flat heads over the years. Needless to say, I'm learning a ton and excited to get it back together!

Looking great !!!!!!!

I am very happy that the engine project is working out for your fine, beautiful jeep !!
After all, it was your engine before I had it, and now it is back home, good thing we are fairly close here in Florida :D :D :D

Once we get our jeeps done, we will have to drive to the Spanish Fort at Saint Augustine, and all the great little bars and restaurants in the
old town by the fortress :D :D :D
Keep up your great progress !!!

Looking forward to it someday soon !!

Best Regards,

Ray

Motor has been assembled and is bolted up. Putting the accessories on and will be attempting to start it very soon! Also got a used top from a friend of mine who snagged it on a trail ride. I patched it up and it'll do for me

Found a set of Seelite bulbs. One works, one is blown. So I searched around on here and saw where some folks have had luck changing the inner bulbs on their original housings. Ordered 4 off of Amazon using part number p45t41. Also the high temp BBQ flat black paint is a close match to the original. When they come in the mail I'm going to give it a go.
