Now that you mention it, Chuck, yes. Bob, Jim Gilmore and Eric Kosalko, and myself included, all do good work.
It all started with a friendly conversation with my good friend Kevin Kronlund who had just contacted me with a request for a rare GTB part and to discuss a problem with a CCKW engine. I mentioned if I were to pick out a CCKW to restore all over again that I would choose a Closed Cab. One was not available when I picked out my Open Cab 1941 CCKW over in Denmark back in 82. Kevin was parting out an early Closed cab and offered to give it to me. He was shipping a tracked vehicle to friend Greg Wolanin in Albany NY and offered to send the cab care of Greg. Greg, being the gentleman he is, would not take a nickle for the favor of delivering my cab from Wisconsin to NY. I contacted good friend Bob Rubino @ Mil Spec to see if he would restore the cab for me and Bob agreed to fit it into his busy schedule. Now, Bob being the gentleman that he is, took a Sunday drive with his wife from his home in PA to upstate NY to haul the cab back to his shop- no charge except the fuel. Bob, Jim Gilmore, and Eric Kosalko did a beautiful job restoring the cab to my strict standards. Bob chose to use TM9 Ordnance primer on the cab and good friend Paul Veins came over to the shop to do the priming. I had saved NOS hardware, seats, windshield, and a door over a 40 year period just for the day when I would have a closed Cab CCKW. When it was completed, Bob personally delivered the restored cab to me in Maine at no charge.
There is more to the story. I have been having severe health problems due to my old Army surgery 40 years ago and Bob called to offer the services of himself, Jim Gilmore, and Eric Kosalko to lift the cab in place for me. This involved a 1100 mile one day round trip just to lift the cab in place and BS with me for a short time before they returned to New Jersey all in the same day. Chuck, I am so glad you asked and gave me the opportunity to tell you that's what friends in this hobby are all about.
But there is more, friend John Cliche, being the gentleman that he is bought the nice Open Cab that I had just removed from the CCKW, gave me a sizeable tip and left with my last original 37MM Cannon axle for a project he had.
All the folks I just mentioned practice a "two way street" and open up their "stashes" of rare parts they share among friends.
And Chuck,
That's what friends are for.

Yup....just like the guys who brought your trailer up to Tower Park and loaded it up so Dave P.WeeBeeWebbing could haul it back to the East Coast for you. Done because that was the right thing to do...you should post the BEFORE and AFTER photos of that restoration also.

Like I said. "That's what friends are for," and Manny Rogers delivered it nearly to my doorstep.

Curiosity about the M38A1: what identity did you attach to it? Unfortunately I was oblivious to the undertaking at the time but a couple of our engineer unit mechanics at Fort Riley in 1962 were periodically buying jeep parts at the retail section of post Property Disposal at two cents a pound. That was the standing price for steel components which were being disposed of. I did buy some carbine brass for 25 cents per pound, but I was too smart to buy a bucket of the M1 longer bayonets which were being offered to me at a dollar apiece by the sales clerk at Property Disposal. As you may observe, Property Disposal was different in those days. Backsink

I was buying Jeep Scrap residue for $2.00/Ton in the mid 60's, the PDO did not weigh them, but considered two canabalized Jeeps to be a net ton. Some were just missing a few components. The M-38 A1 was built from NOS parts fron Military surplus around the world, Windshield was Spanish Army, Tub was USMC Supply Center Barstow, Hood was USMC Supply Center Albany, GA, all parts were by Willys Part number from Surplus stock, Jeep Authorized Dealer, and found thru want ads in Shotgun News, Supply Liner, etc, and connections in the military.I bought a few NOS M-38A1 body tubs from Sam Werner who had over 50 at the time.

Just as an aside to this thread, Joel's axle for the 37 Cannon saved the day for John and I during our restoration of that project after we got stiffed by a G contact who took the money and ran without sending us the original Studebaker rims he "sold" us. We were able to use standard jeep split rims after we got the axle that Joel provided us. It is owned by the local legion post.

A little spin in one of the MV's "is good for what ails ya". They can make you feel young again.
The MB brings back lots of good memories, I shared a morning with General Chuck Yeager in it at an airshow back in 1996.

I've had a couple of drives since surgery last month and I agree. Can't wrench on anything though and with another procedure in October it looks like 2013 to finish GPW 274701.

Joel....your MB has the Winter top on it from around 1947-1949 that has the side panels....can you confirm what type of fasteners it uses? Are they the PUSH type as found on the WWII top bow flaps or are they the later oblong fittings that twist after being put through the hole?

Top is ORD 7721446. 100% Turnbuttons that are have a backing plate and two rivets. The Oval eyelets are the clinch type with 4 prongs. 10 Barrel Grometts are across the front for attaching to the windshield studs The Barrel Grommets accomodate both Willys and the locking Ford Studs.
All buckles are North & Judd, tips are Ball Tip. Binding tape is Glossy Willys. The exhaust Flap for the fuel burning heater could be found on either side for some reason.
