WWII M9A2 and M18 Paracaisson - DONE! w/pics
After many years of restoration, I am now done with the restoration of my WWII M9A2 (steel) and M18 (aluminum) paracaisson. A lot more work than I was expecting removing dents and straightening the bodies. Very pleased with the results! I am missing a draw bar handle and the web straps on the M18. Enjoy!
Thanks,
Van

I used to have a pair of these I sold many years back, which came from Mahalchik's yard in NJ... Wonder if these are them? I still have one or two small bits for them around! I'll post pics of the couple bits I currently know the whereabouts of...

Very nice job on both Paracaisson's!
I restored an M9A2 that was in the family since the late 50's and used a garden wheelbarrow. I wrote an article on my M9A2 restoration that appeared in Army Motors magazine about 15 years ago.
I was fortunate enought to have attended the Mahalchik aution in Borden Town NJ, back in the late 80's. I got many parts including orginal M9A2 assembly tool kit, parachute straps, top half assemblies, tow straps, wheels, tires, axles, correct nuts and bolts and other parts at the auction.
Below is a link to more info about the famous Mahalchik audtion and the time capsule of WWII equipment he lest behind.
http://www.spacesarchives.org/explore/c ... fty-acres/
Old man Mahalchik must have purchased about 50 brand new M9A2 unassembled kits from the army surplus sales that were so common after the war at NJ bases. About 20 new M9A2 complete kits were stacked up by his TeePee. During the auction you would have seen that Mahalchik used the corrugated metal sheets from the M9A2 kits as walkways to cover the mud around is TeePee. That's right, he lived in a big TeePee surrounded by Army suplus vehicals, aircraft and stuff which he stored on his defunct airport property.
I found enough parts to do a museum qualiy restoration on our family wheelbarow and enough extra parts in my basement now to do one more complete M9A2, if I get a around to it. They are time consuming, but very rare.

John Mahalchik was a friend of mine for several years before he passed away... I actually had free run of the place! I could go over, tell him what I was looking for, and he'd let me wander around freely... At the auction, I bought a CCKW, and later was allowed to pull a half a dozen jeep-trailer loads out...Gary25 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 04, 2018 12:12 pmVery nice job on both Paracaisson's!

Scott...we must have been at the auction at the same time. I didn't purchase anything directly at the aution. I was introduced to his son and went back about 30 days later with son and he pointed me to several M9A2 kits he knew where still there included a few components such as the tool kit he hid away.
Do you have any pictures of the aucton or the yard ? Do you know what is there now.....a mall I presume?
I don''t remember seeing any MB/GPW.....do you ?
Regards,
Gary

There is still nothing there- although it looks like they have put in some kind of pipeline station at the back of one section... I have a couple pics from back around then- on the auction listing! Have to find them... As t o MB/GPW, he didn't have any I was able to find... He had stacks of M-37 bodies and parts however! But they were in pretty poor shape last I saw them...Gary25 wrote: ↑Sat May 12, 2018 4:49 pmScott...we must have been at the auction at the same time. Thanks for the update Scott. I thought the property had been developed a while ago didn't realize it was still empty. Possibly there's some contamination?

Hi Ernie,
Good to hear from you.
I think I remember you and your Dad being at the auction! I was with Harold Ratzburg, Big Lou and my father.
Didn't know you bought the buses.
The auction was very close for you. Do you remember the WWII Chevy panel trucks load with baseball gloves?
