Reproduction of Tow Rope Parts
I think I can make reproductions of the tow rope handle and hook, after seeing the dimensions. Will someone please loan me an original so I can make sure I get the forms and dies built correctly? I'll be happy to pay a deposit to borrow a set for a couple of weeks. Thanks, Tom Campbell

If someone has original tow ropes to loan to Tom I assure you he will take great care of them and return them quickly , I have done this on other parts for him without any problems and I know he would appreciate it . Thanks Warren Duchesne

Bryan, If you wold loan them (or rent them) to me for a couple of weeks I would appreciate it. I'd be glad to put up a deposit on them if you wish. I have a blacksmith already lined up to put a professional eye on the project. I will gladly pay freight both ways. Contact me off the board at Industele@aol.com

Re: Reproduction of Tow Rope Parts
I have seen plenty of discussion on the handles and hooks that Hayes had not being the exact match to the originals, just an FYI. I would be interested in buying a set if you can get them made.

Re: Reproduction of Tow Rope Parts
You should go all the way and find the correct braided rope, make the rope clamps, put the leather on the handles and sell them as a set. Hey go all the way! Always easy for somebody else like me to say ain't it!

Re: Reproduction of Tow Rope Parts
That's the general idea, to make the whole thing, but I've got to start somewhere. The rope, and crimp on clips are not a problem. The leather handle may be a problem, but still all is in vain if I can't make the handles and hooks.

If I had some I would be glad to let you use them. Hope it works out, I would definitely be interested in a completed set!

Re: Reproduction of Tow Rope Parts
Just saw a response to an old post about reproduction tow ropes. I looked into making these a couple of years ago, and it turned out to be too much work. Couldn't build them and sell them for anything approaching a decent price - so I let this project die. Thanks for your interest, but you're going to have to look elsewhere. If you do find a deal, let me know - I need a few sets myself. Tom Campbell

Re: Reproduction of Tow Rope Parts
Got the handles and hooks from Hayes and I like em. Of course I don't have a original set plus with a original set just selling for 700 plus they will do just fine. Leather should not be a problem for me as they are simple stitch leather. My issue is finding a good repo rope and where to get the crimps? Any ideas out there? Matt

Re: Reproduction of Tow Rope Parts
repro rope is the same as current "cord" which I have US govt. artillery lanyards that made out of the exact same cordage and swag crimps made in the 90's.
McMasters Carr should carry it if no one else. Might also be listed as White Cotton Cordage or under rigging in sailboats.
