M6A1 hand cart restoration.

Post by matt506 » Tue Aug 23, 2016 3:38 pm

Got a pretty nice decent M6 81mm hand cart up at the Iola military show. I have been rebuilding it even to the point of rebuilding the wheel bushings and hubs. Tires are nice and original I will post numbers and pictures but one thing I am missing is a picture of where the holes are suppose to be in the body so I can weld up the unwanted ones. Were the holes different by the nomenclature or were they all universal?

1943 R.I.A. M6A1 Mortar Cart only has the holes for the Mortar brackets and the footman loops.

1943 John Wood M6A1 Mortar Cart has all the holes for 30Cal, 50Cal?, Mortar and footman loops. Basically the same as an M3A4 Hand Cart with a unique data plate.

1943 R.I.A. M6A1 Mortar Cart (below)

There are two washers (spacers for Mortar brackets) on the inside front panel. on a R.I.A. only. (cant seem to crop photo. 2nd washer is to the right)

One extra hole in aft slat for the mortar bracket.

11 holes in the front and 11 in the back.

The sides only have (4) holes for the footman loops. Other 5 holes are for axle and data plate.

Ok that makes some scence then. I welded up the hole that goes through the front cross bar mount on accident then. I figured that bubba must have drilled that one as it was really awkward place. darn.
