M38 Voltage Regulator Needed

Post by dpcd67 » Thu Apr 27, 2017 11:10 am

Well, I have been told that my Prestolite regulator ain't right for an M38, so I need a correct one. Let me know what you have. If I can use an electronic one, (I have had them on M37s), I guess that would be ok too.

Any of the 25 amp 28v regulators will work with the correct 4 pin female and 3 pin generator connector will work.I have a Delco on my M38 right now but originally they had only Autolite.

Hi dp,

I've had folks give me the old breadbox regulators..........seems most don't want them.........but I don't have one right now or I'd send it to you. But I'll keep my eyes open and if one pops up I'll grab it for you. Maybe someone can give you a "junker" Auto-Lite......then all you have to do is swap the data plate and cover and no one will know the guts are Prestolite and not Auto-Lite. I know they sell new Auto-Lite regulator data plates, but I haven't seen the covers.

Using a solid state, ie, electronic one, would also be "incorrect"........they came on the scene later.

regards,
bob

I have heard good things about the solid state ones; I would use one even though it is not OEM, it is a correct replacement.
I can't use the Prestolite anyway because all the pins, male and female, are gone; the PO hot wired it directly into the Generator and elsewhere. I can't fathom why.
