LATE REPLACEMENT PE-95 ENGINES
Some were new purchase Industrial Engines with Rotating Intake and Exhaust Valves.

The rotating valve engines are easy to tell if you take the valve cover off. Question is, the valves wont rotate without the correct keepers and all, but what makes them want to rotate? Is it the nature of the beast or a special camshaft design where rotators and non rotators use a different cam? Considering that these are gear drive engines.

Late (mid 50's on) 4cyl 134 engines had ball bearing rotators on the exhaust. These engines had hardened exhaust seats. Mid 50's L and F-Head engines had these. The Rotation is transmitted by torsion created by the action of the valve springs being compressed and relaxed. Special valves with different locks were installed.
I have noticed that the late G-716 PE-95 replacement are equipped with Rotating Valves for both the Intake and Exhaust.
I have a 100 hour late PE-95 Engine so equipped that is now a spare and set up for my MB should it ever be needed.

I have a PU-58 with a June 1944 engine, it has a Willys industrial head. A tag on the chassis is stamped "engine mod cyl hd & valves"". I assume that means rotating valves were installed?

Best take a look under the valve cover and verify.
