Hummer titling

Discussion of Local, State, and Federal issues regarding MV Legislation, MV use restrictions, MV registration refusals, etc. As these issues may ultimately affect other jurisdictions, information and education of all MV owners is crucial for the future ownership and use of our MVs.
This is not a board for Political discussion.
This is not a Q&A Forum on how to title or register a MV.

Hummer titling

Post by Thomas Romine » Wed Apr 20, 2016 4:11 pm

Michigan has begun canceling titles for hummers even if they were issued years ago.

We have a State Rep. That is willing to help with getting this changed. What we would like to know is: What states are issuing titles.

If you live in a state that you know for sure are issuing titles for hummers please post what state you are in.

Can you cite where this has occurred? Or what DMV is saying the reason is?

Correct title for post "HMMWV" titling, as I am pretty sure all "Hummers" came titled.

Document, document, the ones that were titled in the first batch a few decades ago, had legitimate titles.
Need more info on the reason the state thinks they are no longer legal.
As said could not be good for all of us regardless of the year and era of our HMVs.

The MVPA has been notified of this issue and is looking for details. Less said is good advice though. It's like letting the prosecutor sit in on your conversations with your attorney.

Gents

We currently have a two state elected officials that are willing to help with this issue. What they would like to know is what states are issuing titles. That is all. Please post any stated that you know are missing titles or send me a pm if you would like.

All we need is what state. We will research how they are doing it. We should have a date for a hearing soon for the first title that has been cancelled. We want to be ready.

Should have worded my post better. No intent to silencing the exchange of information. I am all for aggressively pushing back against rogue bureaucrats. Just consider the content and purpose of the post.
Kansas and Wisconsin faced title surrender issues.

Kevin,
Tom (Romine) and I talked last night. If I understood correctly, they were asked to surrender their titles too. I forwarded him the MIL-SPEC document and links to the appeals here. This just got brought up on Steel Soldiers too.
A few weeks ago, I was in contact with Jwade from S.S. (Operations Manager, Government Services for IronPlanet/GovPlanet). He made it sound as if it's Michigan's issue, not federal.
**** Correction, I JUST saw the letter from MI, and they DO want the titles back.
At least the folks in MI are getting going on this early.

Sorry I can't help with the list of states, but can you contact Gov Planet and ask them what states accept their paperwork for titling. I thought if you had the form 97, that was all you needed.
Has anyone heard yet WHY they are taking the titles back? Is it the "off road use only" clause that has been retracted and the state has just not caught up with that news? State agencies always work off last years news, not current, unless you can PROVE it to them the info has changed.
Will Gov Planet help out?
Still crazy after all these years.

ODG,
This vehicle was sold by the Govt. prior to Gov. Planet taking over sales. So I doubt that they can shed much relevant light on things.
From what I understand, this is the only vehicle so effected, at least yet.
I am currently trying to find out what a legitimate HMMWV VIN number would be, to make sure this vehicle is legit.
This 1990 HMMWV has an 11-digit VIN recorded on the Title. I have not yet verified the VIN on the actual vehicle. A "standard" VIN is 17-digits. This one reads: 63H8F****** (I have substituted ****** for the last numbers in his VIN)
Can anyone who actually owns a titled 1990 HMMWV tell me how many digits there are in the VIN on their truck and on their title?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Anything new to tell us? If info sensitive at this point, a PM will do. Just curious now. Was this just a one time event, or a whole class of vehicles. Thanks
