Does anyone know how to replace the motor/trans & transfer case mounts....can you replace them without yanking the cross brace or does the brace have to come off?.....and if it does, do you have to support the motor/trans/transfer and where?

Hello Lesk,
Go pull out your manual and read how the powerplant is pulled. For the rear yes you can
remove the crossmember and service the mount
and let the whole unit hang. However, putting a brace under the back end of the oil pan
bellhousing is good insurance.
For the front you will need to loosen or remove the rear crossmember and a few other things. Again read how the powerplant is removed as an assembly. You don't have to disconnect linkages and wiring, but depending on how much vertical
movement needed you may need to drain the radiator and disconnect the hoses to keep from ripping the connections off the rad.
If you have the military engine lift it is easier to remove the grille, fenders, loosen the needed items and again lift the entire assembly including the radiator.
You can get all three that way.
The manual has all the steps for that.

Re: How to repalce motor/trans & transer case mount.
As mentioned read the manuals - if you don't have them you can find them on the Willys M Jeeps site in the "Downloads" section. www.willysmjeeps.com The easiest way will probably be to drop the cross member, you can support the trans and transfer case with a transmission jack or just a bottle jack. Working around the cross member will be a little tight but there should be room to get at the trans and transfer case mount bolts - the cross member itself is held by 2 bolts on each frame rail. Detach anything that is bolted to the cross member like the engine stay cable. Once the cross member is down you can put on the new mounts and raise it in place. Let us know how it went.

Thanks skyjeep and 4x4m38....I will post a post-trans/transfer mount replace when it has been completed and how easy it was without a hoist in cod weather.
