M38A1 Pulley Fail

Day two of the Smokey Mountains Convoy climbing the mountains up to Newfound Gap I heard a new sound from the Jeep, a repeating growling sound. At the pass I opened the hood but could not see anything wrong. The growling continued down the other side of the mountains. I stopped at a traffic light in Cherokee. When I turned left the fan pulley came off and you can see the result:

This was a pulley I pressed on this water pump over 7 years ago. I can only figure the extended higher than cruising engine revs climbing the mountain loosened the pulley. Has anyone ever welded the pulley on to the shaft to prevent this?
