Jeep friends I'm new here and have a question about my M38a1-cdn2. These cars have 7105 as a prefix before the serial number, someone here who knows what this number stands for?

Thank you for your answer.

There is no easy answers to this question as far as I know. 1967/68 M38A1 CDN2 jeeps were made by Kaiser Jeep of Canada. A typical dashboard plate has a manufacturer's serial number "97567" but the "patent plate" on the wheel well is " 7105 97567" with a very wide space between them. The later M38A1 CDN3 jeeps were made by Jeep Corporation ,Toledo, Ohio. An typical example has a dashboard plate with serial number "100067" but the patent plate on the wheel well reads "7105014 100067". Generally the prefix number was ignored when the jeep was licensed. Since the prefix only appears on the patent plate and not as part of the dashboard serial number then it may have been a prefix code known only to the manufacturer. Both models are clearly marked "MFR. Model MD" and the full description includes either "CDN2" or "CDN3" and each is assigned a unique NATO Stock No. and Ordnance Stock Number. Often the dashboard plates are badly faded but I have perfect repro plates sets available. The Patent Plates have not yet been reproduced partly because they involve a raised reverse number stamping.
