Slave Connector Cable Lengths?

Post by w30bob » Fri Apr 07, 2017 8:22 am

Hi Guys,

If I were to install a slave connector/terminal in the provision on the passenger side of the cowl......I need to make sure the cables are long enough. So how long do the cables need to be to reach the battery terminals? II realize I can make cables to any length, but I'm lazy and want to buy a slave terminal with pre-made cables. I don't see any listing for the slave connector in the ORD 9. I searched using "slave".....is it called something else?

thanks,
bob

They come with the Power Plant Heater Kit, Receptacle ORD 7358734. I may or may not have an original left. They are vehicle specific due to length.

Hi Ben,

Do the slave cables connect at the battery terminals or at the starter and ground lug by the regulator? I don't remember seeing any additional holes in the battery box but I haven't looked under the dash real well in the area of the cowl where the slave terminal mounts.

thanks,
bob

Ground lug by regulator and at the + Terminal of the inboard battery. Not all receptacles are created equal.

The cables are two different lengths. The longer one (positive) is 32" in length from the back of the slave recepticle, and it connects to the starter lug. The shorter (negative) cable is 28" long, and connects to the ground lug by the regulator.

Ah.........that makes sense! I'll look later and see where the grommet holes in the firewall are for that routing scheme. Thanks for the info guys!!

Why not install the correct Recepticle Assy? It goes thru the holes under those two little covers at the top of the toeboard. Far as I know there were no grommets.

Hi Bob. If I do this right you should see two photos attached. One photo shows the back side of the slave receptacle where it comes through to the passenger floorboard area (note the routing of the cables). In the center of the other photo, you can see the same two cables coming through the firewall (with grommets) behind the right front fender. The negative cable attaches to the local ground stud (shown in the photo), and the positive cable attaches to the starter stud. Hope that helps.

Hi,

The previous posts did not specify M38 or M38A1. Can you confirm the lenghts of the cables please.

M38: 32" pos & 28" neg
M38A1: 36" for both pos & neg

Thanks,
Dave

They connect to the starter terminal and a grounding lug on the chassis near the starter.

Hi Dave; I can confirm the lengths for the M38A1 are 32" (positive) and 28" (negative). I don't know what the lengths are for the M38.
