M-38A1 MOMENT REMEMBERED

Post by Joe Gopan » Fri Apr 10, 2015 5:52 am

It won't be long this late spring before I can take another refreshing ride. The M-38A1 will sing to you, it changes its tune at every 10 MPH increment. At 50 MPH with the doors and side curtains off there is just the cooling fan sound, the familiar hum of the Goodyear 7.00 X 16 NDCC Tires, and the faint whine of the Transfer Case. When decelerating from 55-60 MPH the driver will be noticeably thrust forward as the compression slows the Jeep. The ride is comfortable, and more so if the seat cushions are original with the springs, the M-38A1 can be driven at highway speed for hours with no driver fatigue. The VRC 10 in back is a familiar sight, it crackles to life in seconds but rarely picks up any military traffic except for the occasional public works transmissions. 38-55 Hz is not a very exciting frequency range unless you are a GI and other vehicles are active on their mission.

Just replace the RT-68 with an RT-66 and switch an antenna section. You will hear more audio activity. Keep cruising". Backsink

It won't be long I hope, that I will be able to drive mine. I'm into the engine at the moment, preparing to send the crank and block out for work. Found a guy up in Orillia Ontario that I think will do a good job. I am going down to a swap meet this morning (Sunday) with my son to see if I can find "stuff" for the 53 M38A1 CDN. Coffee is brewing, getting ready to go early (7am). Man I love spring! Rick.

My M38A1 just got a friend in the barn yesterday. I picked up a friends 52 M38A1 to work on it for him and it turns out our jeeps are built 407 apart!

My M-38A1 and I have celebrated this event for 42 tyears, she was frisky as ever. MB is next later this week. CCKW fired right up in seconds, gotta wait for mud to dry, she doesn't like to get her feet dirty.

Finally got an Ideal sunny Jeep driving day. The extra kick of the M-38A1 along with the familiar hum of the OEM 7.00 X 16 Goodyear NDCC tires was refreshing. Next, to burn up that long winter tank full of stale gas.

This is why I prefer the M-38A1 in local parades, it is more parade friendly. You'd have to drive one to see why.
