How does the top bow stay in?

And is this correct for this jeep - 62 marine corps contract.

The "Weld Nuts" were eliminated on late M-38A1 Bow Sockets and Bows stay in place just fine.

Since I am Dave - I can say with authority that Wes did send me the correct photo via PM several days ago.

Looks like the rear bracket is fairly close to the early model??

I think I can fabricate the front one if I had some dimensions.

No rush however since I have no top bows at present - BUT I got her running and stopping!!

Rebuilt the carb, new gas tank, new brakes all around - bled them out a couple of hours ago.

Waiting on new tires from Wallace Wade and I'l be driving around.

Starting the remaining body work now.

These 4 photos show the Bow Sockets, Front Bow Storage Brackets (new style), and Rear Bow Storage Brackets on my late M-38A1 with 1967 dated body.

AND........the Jeep factory GI Issue Vinylite Seat O.D.Covers.
And the Regulation 4# Axe with the full length 36" Handle (The only 4# Axe that is issued-there is no such thing as a "short axe" for the M-38A1)

This photo illustrates the Lower Door Sockets that are only installed on M-38A1 with Canvas Enclosure Kits.
Note the Turn Button Fastners that are only installed with the enclosure kit. They are not installed when the M-38A1 leaves the factory.

The two extra Binding Head Screws are for the clips on the Radio Power Cable.

NOTE the Rubber Accelerator Pedal typical of late M-38A1 Jeeps Chassis No. 76775 and after. And..the well groomed dashboard.
NOTE also the NOS GI Issue Front Wheel Cylinder awaiting installation to replace those that have given 34 years of trouble free service.

MY M-38A1 is built from NOS GI and Factory sourced parts back in 1975. It has given me 37 years of faithful service.

NOTE THE CORRECT INSTALLATION OF THE REAR BOW STORAGE BRACKETS in the photos of Ben's Jeep. Two of the pics that Cuz posted have them on inside out-did anyone notice?
Note the late style tall footman loops for attaching the Side Curtains.

Radio installation is AN/VRC 10 installed on Passenger Side so that I can operate it from Drivers Seat.

I see you are missing the NOS thumbscrews. What are the part numbers on the two front brackets you have?

Thumbscrews are not used with late Bow Sockets. The late sockets without weldnuts are Willys 684239 and are for Chassis No. 83545 and after. The Thumbscrews are installed from the inside, late body tubs produced sometime after Chassis No. 83545 do not have the holes thru them to install the thumbscrews and there are no holes for them on this 1967 dated USMC Surplus Body that I purchased from Sam Werner.
The late sockets without nuts are NOT installed on this because I had plenty of the earlier Sockets w/Nuts, the nuts can be knocked off.
The Late Front Bow Storage Brackets illustrated(Hook Type) are 684295, Left and 684296, Right.

And did you notice that some of the Rear Bow Storage Brackets in the three pics that you posted are installed incorrectly? The ones on the bottom two are inside out.

It's very common on just about 1/2 the restos to see the brackets in many different ways. I have seen the front on the back and the back on the front as well.

I can barely make out what looks like a part number on the outside of your right front bracket that ends in a 3. What is the full number on there?

I have often wondered what is the difference between the center bow sockets 673777 and the 684239 that superseded it?

Early Bow sockets have Nuts for the Thumbscrew. Late are plain as in the photo of the green Jeep. Thumbscrew enters Bow Socket from inside of body.
Right Front Bow Storage Bracket is 684296, Left Front is 684295. You are looking at some crud.
My rear storage brackets are mounted correctly, if they are not installed in that manner, the bows will not nest correctly at the rear. A check of the TM's will confirm the proper mounting.

My question was what are the differences between the two late center bow sockets Part Numbers 673777 and 684239? The early center bow socket with the weldnut used thru MD83545 is PN 673771. Or is 63771 just the complete assy with weld nut using the bare 673777 socket.

This is what looked like a 3 to me. Must be scratches from your bows or something.

That mark on the front bracket is a paint scuff from use.
Bow Sockets
673771 with Nuts on outside
673777 No Nuts just the hole
684239 for the late M-38A1, at some point in time when 673777 was exhausted.
The Willys Drawing will tell the story.

I noticed your instrument panel is different from mine - mine has m151 style dash lights and hi beam indicator.
