WWII ETO Jeep crew with mounted MG
Attached are photos of my grandfather, Woody Stillwell during WWII. He passed away a number of years ago, and I'm trying to discover more of his military service time. I know he went to basic training at Camp Croft in May 1943, was sent to the ETO in summer or fall of 1944 (don't know his division) and was demobilized at Ft Patrick Henry 25 November 1945. He was a gunner on a scout jeep, went from Pvt to Sgt to PFC a couple of times, and was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He's the bareheaded one on the bicycle. Thought the M-2 on the jeeps might be of interest.

Here's the other photo. Both were scanned and sent to me by one of my cousins. Note the soldier on the far right with the western gunbelt.

Is the guy in the second photo, the one holding the plow device, wearing a cowboy belt with a six-shooter in the holster?

Re: WWII ETO Jeep crew with mounted MG
Hello,,
Great pictures !!!
I know that at Camp Croft many of the 29th Division men, or men that ended up in that division, went through training there,
as a 70th Division Sgt. told me he trained many of them before he went to the 70th.
He often spoke about the the loss of so many of good men that were hit on Omaha Beach, which was virtually untouched by bombings,
before the landings, that those men waded into that terrible gauntlet.
The men in the picture are wearing their Combat Infantrymen Badges , some are wearing coats, may be late March,1945 time frame that picture was taken.
Could be taken in France , or just inside Germany.
Looks to be at a front rest area, or a quieted sector.
Try looking up service records for him, and they likely will have his info as to what division he was attached to during the war.
Also does the jeep name say :
" Cuyahoga Kid " ???
