Post by kng » Wed Apr 16, 2014 4:04 pm

This is my Granddad during the Korean war. Is enough of this Jeep showing to identify?

It's a WWII MB or GPW but I can't tell more than that. By Korea many MB/GPW's had gone through re-build programs where they were disassembled & re-assembled with no care about which jeep the parts originally came from so it could be an MB-GPW depending on how much weight you give to each component.

The safety strap eyebolt is turned like it is a MB, but it might have been changed if it went through a rebuild as previously stated.

It is either a GPW or MB... WWII jeep for sure.

I think he has a map light taped to the steering column.

If I remember correctly we have seen these before in photos.

Here is what one looks like and I think they taped it so you see the real of the light with the light pointing to the dash or is the dome pointing toward the driver?

It is a jam nut, and the hex can vary, Jeep apparently used a different vendor than Ford. My guess is that a jam nut may have been selected due to the weight limit the Army set for the 1/4 Ton truck.
