Forgive me if I am wrong, but isnt that an air deflector on the inside of the hood? Wasnt that just supposed to be for the slatties? Or did they keep using them for a certain period of time to strengthen the hood some...

Since the ancient time when Adam received a partner in trade for a rib, when you see a dark spot there is more likely a hole.

You bring up a interesting observation. Could it just be because of the angle the pic was taken? Remember, they are only 1/4 inch holes. The larger dark spots are for the 1/2 doors as we know -----

Forward top bow storage bracket holes are visible as they are bigger holes. However the grab handle holes and the crash pad screw heads are not visible in this photo...they are there, you just can't SEE them.

I don't see a USA number on the hood either....

The deflector was on MBs until the changeover to the composite body... January 1944 on most models... on my model until July 1944. There were three types of deflector... depending on the MB.

Hood deflector, crossover tube in OD, half door studs in black, no rifle rack, no lube guide holder, no grease gun mounting, no holes in front bumber, Fram label on oil filter, label on fuel filter on non-transparent background. Are these details unique to Willys, or only some of them? Is the base of the rear seat distinctive to the maker? Or maybe these details relate to a time period. I know some of the answers, but not all....

Toby...all the things you pointed out, plus the following make it possible to give an approximate date of this MB by cross checking Nabholtz..

1) too LATE for pancake airfilter
2) too EARLY for metal pipe in rad. hose
3) too EARLY for radio box on pass side
4) possibloy even too EARLY for the fender BODL? (can't see one)

The rear seat pan/rear seat back pan is attached like this on MB and wrapped AROUND the frame on the GPW.

Also of interest;no rifle rack mounts on windshield frame, and it does not appear to have the rear panel reinforcement gussets.

Well... I will take a stab at this.

No Blackout light on the fenders of the jeep in the forground and background and no trailer socket on the two jeeps in the background so prior to July of 1942.

We have a standard air filter and that was changed in March of 1942.

But we also look to have an oval muffler and that came in May 1942.

So, if in fact that is an oval muffler I would say May or June 1942.

In the Emil Becker-Guy Dentzer book p 342:
Une chaine d'assemblage en Australie
Ces JEEP faisaient partie des contrats W-398-QM-11423 pour la Willys MB et W-374-ORD-2862 pour les Ford GPW

En Australie au mois de décembre 1942, des JEEP Willys au premier stade d'assemblage. La date nous intéresse du fait que le véhicule est appelé PEEP dans le texte-photo
