Carter YS Questions

Post by bazookajoe » Tue Jun 06, 2017 4:06 pm

Helping a friend with his M38 running rich issue and found that the metering rod at the large end measured .069 and the jet it went into measured .096 and these parts were from a recent rebuild kit. I removed the metering rod from an early non-rebuilt Carter YS and found that the large end measured .075 and the jet it went into measured .096 the same as the modern rebuild kit. I put the old metering rod into the carb to reduce the amount of fuel being burned. It now doesn't run as rich. Does anyone know what the metering rod and jet measurements should be? There was also an issue of the missing tube that goes from the crossover pipe to the top of the carb, i believe it feeds into the float chamber, which i replaced. If this tube is left out and there is no connection to the fitting on the carb and is left to atmospheric pressure how will this affect performance. The jeep ran well after these changes.
