M38 Rotator Valves

All my valves have to be replaced in the RMC engine now in the machine shop for hot tank and inspection. It had all the exhaust valves of the rotating type; and I did save all the little cups and retainers. However, I think that the valves are no longer available. So, I will have to replace them with the regular type of valves.

Contact some of the dealers for the Roto Cap type exhaust valves. You can install the conventional and your engine will be just as happy.

I had to go with regular valves in my F head for the exhaust and have not had any issues. Alan

And remember, the different type if valves require different locks and retainers. It's a hassle, but the two type Rotating Exhaust Valves use different rotators and keepers. I squirreled away a couple sets of each for posterity 20 years ago as I could see this coming. Some of the automotive machine shops still know how to find them. Best to shop around until you find a source that knows how to order them There is nothing wrong with places like Advance Auto, but do not expect them to recognize or be fluent with the different type rotating valves and hardware for the L and F-134 Engines as it is not an every day thing.

No one has any NOS rotator valves that I can find. I will install standard valves and get new retainers and cups. Since hundreds of thousands of other jeeps didn't use them so I do not know why they went with the rotating idea in the first place. If they make the exhaust valves last longer, I will never know it.
Like the jeep that could drive under water; sounded good at the time....
