two rectangular washers that are used on the fuel pump mou

Post by g.keating » Mon Apr 17, 2017 8:08 am

A friend of mine working on his M38 threw me this question.

What is the purpose of the two rectangular washers that are used on the fuel pump mounting?

I did not remember any "rectangular washers" when doing my M38 so I looked further.

No mention of them in the maintenance manuals for removing and replacing the pump. No pictures anywhere. I have included links to both the M38 and the M38A1 Ord 9 manuals that list the washers, and a picture of them.

Just took one off; it has the block to pump spacer, two long screws and two lock washers. No square ones.

I've been remembering them for 60 years on the M-38 and M-38A1. Willys Par Number 805842, WASHER, RECTANGULAR, fuel pump to block. Don't forget the 5/16" split lock washers. These are listed in the ORD-9 for G-740 and G-758.

To provide maximum bearing surface at the mounting hole location on the face of the pump. You will note on many AC Jeep and MV applications of AC Pumps the distorted area from the bolt heads with plain lock washers. Am sure this also something had to do with the extra thick (0.566" thick) 800361 SPACER, Fuel Pump to block used on the M-38 and M-38A1.
Am sure they did this to secure the pump from unwanted motion.

That Rectangular Washer has a hole 0.406" Dia. and is 0.660" W x 0.940" L. I don't have the drawing for the SPACER 800361 but am sure someone might just post the data from the Willys Drawing just to find me wrong as it is not quite clear where I gleaned it from. That little pump gets quite a workout every minute at 1/2 engine RPM.

Am sure some of the dealers have the 805842 Rectangular washers by part number.
