paint and washing

Post by old man » Sat May 06, 2017 8:22 am

this may sound like a simple problem. but when it comes to washing I have come across problems with water spots (hard water spots is what I call them)
my mule is a semi gloss and I have little problem with washing and then drying and it looks good. on another vehicle I have painted lusterless and flat. the white water spots are ruff to clean off. I have used soft water and it sure makes a difference, but most of the time I do not have access to soft water.
and I end up with what I call hard water camo!
How do you keep your vehicles clean and avoid this problem.
thanks

I have hard water also, but the spots do not form. There may be a difference in the soap you are using. I have used a pink powdered soap as used at commercial truck stops, it leaves no residue.

Do you have a brand name for that soap? I would like to try it here at home for my real cars. My 151 get a pressure wash once or twice a year and air dries. The spots blend in with the pollen and dust.

I'll try to come up with a brand and source. I've had a 30 year supply.

I also have hard water and I used to get water spots that was very hard to remove.

My house has a water softener that only filters/softens the interior water flow. My solution was to put a (1) dedicated hose connection from the softener side of the water line. All other hose connections remained unfiltered. It really helped with my hard water issues.

This is a good article about water spots and removal.
