whats the paint scheme on a green m998 like?
What I mean is which bits are black and which are green?
I`m painting the xdoors on my m998 and wondering if the handles are matt black or green on a factory m998.
I can only find photos of older vehicles that have been through lots of painting after leaving the factory. Anyone know or have pics?
thanks

There are some line drawings that show all sides of a Humvee and label the Green, Black and Brown colored areas for the Woodland SCAPP Camo Pattern. I should have those at work and can post them tomorrow.

Production changes lots when making cars over the years so who could answer your question accuratly. What years are you asking about. Early stuff I have seen was all the Three color scapp wodland camo and a dark yellowish solid tan color. Then later on solid green and solid sand color could be seen rolling out of the factory along with the three color scapp. I would not bet even one dime on being correct on this though and there could be lots of exceptions.

Ahhh yes, the Painting of Mil Vehicles...or for that matter...Anything in the Military.
When I was a Flight Engineer I commented one day to a TEch Inspector....why dont you paint this nasty looking Huey? "My Aircraft" It was dirty from Firefighting missions
and had white paint all over it for easy ID and so it could be seen easier by other Aircraft....Well, that led to a more expansive converstation about when Acft and for that Matter....anything gets Painted in the Military, Ecxept for may be Rocks, I painted Alot of Rocks in Basic.
At my Base, we had a Depot Level SHop for Wheeled Vehicles and they Had a Paint Shop, THe Paint Shop for Aviation was/is the AVCRAD in Fresno Calif...So, what I discovered is that just cuz it dont look good dont get it repainted, Only local spot painting is Authorized, not full Painting at the Unit Level. If a Unit was Being Mobilized it depended where they were going and that decided the color of the Vehicle. Now...you have all gone by Units that have a Mix of TAN, 3 Color CARC and Green Trucks...this is based of what several Factors as I know it,
1.what region of the world is most likely that units equipment going to end up in...Hint...Its a Sand Color
2.What Region is the Units CAPSTONE, that term may have changed, but In Calif the 40th ID's CAPSTONE was Korea, Hence, all our Equipment was
the Early Desert Pattern, Green or 3 Color SCAPP
3.The Next is the Overall Percentage of any Units Equipment was to be a Mix for all the Reasons Above....So as we know now, the Region of the World
that any unit is most likely to be deployed is the Desert, So new trucks rolling off the Assbly line would be TAN...But not all, A percentage would be 3 Color and Navy and Air Force might be Green. We have Many many All Green A.F. HMMWV's at the base....Repaints. Many 1165's,52's and 51's in TAN, but entire Units with SCAPP.
So....Paint your truck any of the 3 and you are good.
