Interior Paint: Desert Tan vs CARC Green

Post by tj4tj4 » Wed Jan 02, 2013 6:30 pm

I'm trying to decide on an interior color for a 1987 M1026. I don't have a choice, it's SWAT-team blue right now: insulation, dashboard, steering wheel (WTF?!?), everything but the seats.

So, I guess an important question is, what on the interior can you NOT paint? I really don't think I want to feel a CARC steering wheel, but maybe I'm wrong.

Being historically accurate, I suppose it makes no sense to paint a 1987 HMMWV tan on the interior, as that wasn't our theatre of operations at the time, so certainly not the way it came out of AMG. Nonetheless, my Ibis TeK bumper won't be historically accurate either, but I don't want it to look like it just came off the assembly line, I just want to drive one again.

Thoughts, musings and all feedback appreciated.

I have seen plenty of hmmwv's of the earlier years in all different paint schemes, trucks go through rebuild and paint process over the years as well.....one thing is for certain on what's is and is not correct on a hmmwv is that nothing is for certain and/or correct. Pint it green, tan, commo....

Some of the early ones were painted tan inside and out when new. It is not the light sand color that is comon now, but sort of an orangeish/yellowish color.

I'm going green inside due to a very large amount of surplus parts for the inside are green, and doing Tan on the outside.
