Custom Seats in Humvee

Post by johnmc » Mon Oct 03, 2011 5:18 am

Has anyone tried putting high back seats that are differnt than the standard issue. I am looking at some jeep wrangler seats and am wondering if anyone has experience with what works/doesnt work.

thanks

John

i guess it kinda goes without saying that H1 seats should work, but alot of Hummer owners have used racing bucket seats that fit.

i've seen a lot of that. i think it's cool and can add masculinity to the owner.

Well they're a lot cheaper than the stock seats, and usually universal fit and fairly narrow. Not sure about how comfortable they are though...

If you are installing the seats that I think you are, they have the seat belts attached to the seat so make shure the mounting of the seat to the Humvee floor pan is beefed up or use the Humvee seat belts that mount to the body and still mount the seats well. Better to be safe than sorry when it comes to crash protection.

I found the seat department pretty limited. A lot of seats will not make it in any dimension, length or width. Due to the B pillar side reinforcement beams in the humvee, its really tight. The high back humvee seats and the early hummer high back Isringhausen seats from 92 and 93, which are similar, will fit but hit the beams when reclined much at all. They arent bad at all. If you remove the B-Beams then you can do a lot more but you give up body strength.

Must not give up to much body strength as that support was removed in 94 model years and up.

What about welding a to the frame-rail, bracket below the tub, and attaching the MRAP seats to that? I see the risk of the bolts ripping through the tub if not using the pillar-mounted seatbelts. Not sure if they will be able to recline, either.

Has ANYBODY here used MRAP seats in a HMMWV...safely?

Why not just install A2 bucket seats and call it a day....they are plenty available, I picked up some sets for 250.00 complete.

I thought they still had the full B Pillar Cross Beam up through the end of HMMWV Production. Have you seen otherwise?

Civi's removed the B-beam as Steve stated. Military kept it. Civi's have the rocker protection that adds a safety benefit for side impacts. I would go the hmmwv upgrade route to keep the truck original.

The ones I have seen have all had them. I figured if they kept the cross beam with people being all cramped in there, it must be pretty important to support the heavy roof systems. Hummers don't have that so I guess it was not a safety issue on them.

Thought the MRAP seat are too wide to fit in the hmmwv? Great seats but the size of the seat would be an issue, correct me if I am wrong...
There where a few on sale at steel soldiers for a couple hundred bucks each a while back, brand new as I recall and he got them from GL.
