I'm going to make a guess here and say probably less than 200 running in more or less stock configuration world wide.

Love this little truck! Had to look it up. Wikipedia reports 1250 units M-422; and 2672 units M-422A1 for a total of 3922 trucks for the entire series. Here is the link.

Personally, I thought more had been built. I never knew that development started in 1946 either. The link is a good read.

While the Wikipedia article on the Mite is more accurate than most, there are some random pieces of bad information. The top photo on the page is an M422A1 but it's identified as a 65" wheelbase M422.

I take exception to the quote about crudely fashioned tool storage boxes behind the seats of the M422E1. As a former owner of an M422E1, I can tell you that the stretch on these rare vehicles was beautifully executed. The 6" extension in the floor was extremely well done and blended so well it looked like it belonged there. The tool boxes were anything but crude, and looked like the factory made installation that they were. The only thing missing from the final version of the toolboxes was the rounded opening.

Brian, I am glad to have read your response. Seeing that you were in fact in the Corps. during the height of the Mites' deployment, Your expertise can be of great value. I think Wikipedia allows for revisions and someone who has owned one can add valuable insight to written mistakes.
I have never been able to closely inspect and compare one Mite to another, so I would have never known about what you've cited. I really do like the little truck a lot. Very cool that they are around, but too bad they are so rare.

Brian, I corrected a lot of misinformation in that wiki article. The original writer changed a big portion of it back then I corrected it again. He contacted me about it and I pointed out mistakes but some were never fixed. Both Mites in the lower two pictures are mine. I added them to the article. The M422 serial number 623 (since sold) which the previous owner had painted USMC 623 on the hood.

As to the question of how many left? I'll amend my original figure I made on 05 December, 2014 from 200 to somewhere around 100 to 125 running in more or less stock configuration world wide.
