Re: Outlier Disc Brake Conversion
This personal take on the fairly popular disc mod is my happy contribution to the community. The adapter bracket is flat and simple and there is a drawing available through JeepDraw for a small fee by the normal procedure.
Pricing: There used to be details here on what I spent, but it has been a while and those figures from 2010 are no longer accurate.
And there you have it, that's how I put disc brakes on my jeep.

Re: Outlier Disc Brake Conversion
Hello
I finished the assembly of the 4 discs 15 days ago. This little word to thank you because it 's great now I can say a jeep that brakes. I just have the rear brakes a little stronger / front discs., I think it comes from the front discs that are new and those from the rear have served.
Sorry for my english

Re: Outlier Disc Brake Conversion
This is not the reason.I think it comes from the front discs that are new and those from the rear have served.
Rear brakes need to do little work when compared to the front.
That is why standard Jeep drum brakes have different size wheel cylinders front & back.
The way you have this setup with same brakes front & back, the rear brakes will lock up prematurely
unless you put a 50-60% [or adjustable] pressure limiting valve in the rear brake line.
A SAFETY WARNING:
Rear brakes, if exactly the same dimensions as the front MUST be pressure limited otherwise you will kill yourself or someone else when driving especially on wet or ice/snowy roads.

Re: Outlier Disc Brake Conversion
Hello all,
I have a 1969 Jeepster Commando (D27/D30) and a 1973 Jeep Commando (D30/D44), both vehicles with drum brakes all around, and I honestly have had it with the general crappiness of the drum brakes...
I know I can swap the Dana 30 on the 1973 "knuckles out" for a '76-'79 axle with disc brakes, but the swap becomes prohibitively expensive when you add new wheel bearings, hubs, rotors, calipers, etc. on a first-generation disc brake system. The wear components (rotors and pads) are easily 3 x the expense of the Isuzu stuff...
Besides, with two vehicles potentially sharing the same brake setups, I can save boucoup $$ in the long run on parts... and I only have to learn one modification...
So, I am willing to pay for a set of 4 of the brackets right now, if they are still available.
Jon (from Australia) was kind enough to send me the diagram of the dimensions, in case they are not available. (Cheers, mate!)
One lingering question I have is to the 1/2" thickness:
Is there a reason the brackets are made of 1/2" thick steel plate?
I'm sure 3/8" or even 1/4" steel would be strong enough, so I am just asking if there is some other reason - like clearance, fitment, etc.
Thank you for your time and trouble,
Spencer

Re: Outlier Disc Brake Conversion
1/2" centres the sliding caliper on the rotor, the other thicknesses don't.
You could probably use aluminium, but I haven't.

Re: Outlier Disc Brake Conversion
Could someone please tell me where to locate the drawings for the mounting brackets. Just finishing up a restoration on an MB and would like to do the disc brake conversion. Sounds like a great idea

Re: Outlier Disc Brake Conversion
Further to my previous threads on this subject, I have now had 20 of the mounting brackets laser cut, and can offer these at GBP£20.00 per pair which for shipping purposes weigh 2 kilos (4 1/2 lbs)
PM me for details.
Cheers

Re: Outlier Disc Brake Conversion
Hello - Further to my previous post, the invoice from the laser cutting company was wrong and they have revised the price to GBP£ 20.00 each or GBP£ 35.00 per pair
The shipping weight is 4.5kgs to send 2 pairs from the UK to the USA via UPS is approx GBP£ 30.00
Sorry if anyone has been mislead
Regards

Re: Outlier Disc Brake Conversion
Ask Jon Rogers www.jeepdraw.com for my free drawings. Then sll you need is a water jetting place to cut 1/2" steel or aluminium.
